The German Champions had an excellent beginning, dominated the whole first half and leaded 20:16 after 40 minutes. Omeyer showed once again his class, saved incredible shots from all the positions possible, including fastbreaks and two 7 meters shots. In all this time, the hosts managed only once to equalise: 8:8/15.
Unfortunately, the problems began to start for Kiel with the time. The left back Filip Jicha had a real poor day, while Kim Andersson and Christian Zeitz performed under their level on the right back. In such conditions, the whole responsibility on the back positions was on Nikola’s shoulder. And the player with number 22, despite of the man marking, meet the expectations, defended well and scored 7 goals. But it was not enough for the trophy.
Ciudad Real defended fantastic and took the lead for the first time after 45 minutes (22:21) and extended it to three goals, 26:23 within 10 minutes to go. A "double" from Nikola for 27:26 (53.) and Stefan Lövgren’s goal for 28:26 kept their squad alive. But within two minutes to go, Abalo brought his team the five goal margin who assured them the trophy (32:27) and for the Kieler it was oll over.
