11.03.10 - Champions League: THW against Zagreb, Nikola gegen Balic
The draw in Vienna established that THW Kiel will play HC Croatia Osiguranje Zagreb in the quarter final of the competition. The other games from the round of the last eight are Chekhovskie Medvedi - Rhein-Neckar Löwen, SG Flensburg-Handewitt - HSV Hamburg and BM Ciudad Real - KC Veszprém.
Nikola and Titi Omeyer know better than any other Kiel´s player how strong the Croatian squad is. At the World Champions 2009 in Croatia, France played twice against Balic, Vori, Duvjnak, Horvat, Spoljaric, Hrvatin and the Valcic brothers. Les Blues have superb memories from the second match, the final, when they won 24:19 and became World Champions. The other two stars in Zagreb´s roster are the Macedonian Kiril Lazarov, the best WCh goalscorer of all times (92 goals in 9 matches) and the Slovenian goalkeeper Gorazd Skof.
The first leg of the quarter final will take place on 24th-29th March, the second leg on 1st-5th April. As already announced, THW has home right in the second leg.
