Zebras had the best start possible, being in lead with 7:2 after 10 minutes, but Ciudad Real came back very fast and equalised: 7:7 (17.) and 8:8 (18.). Kiel assured themselves a comfortable margin shortly after, 13:8 (22.) and ended the first half in the best way: 18:12. Incredible performance in the first half from Filip Jicha, who scored 7 goals, while Nikola lighted up with his assists (5), despite of Källman man-marking.
After Niko’s goal for 19:13, Ciudad Real began to show their whole world class. They punished merciless every mistake made by the home squad and within 4 minutes they were down only by two, 20:18.
THW still owned the lead, there was a maximum margin of 4 goals in their favour (24:20/39). The problems began for the hosts in the moment when Marcus Ahlm got the red card for three 2 minutes suspensions. Kiel’s defence was always weaker and the guests managed to came close to only one goal: 25:24 (42.).
The worst happened within 6 minutes to go, when Fernandez equalised, 32:32, but the boys coached by Alfred Gislason didn’t lose their heads. Lundström scored twice for 34:22, Källman reduced to 34:33 and then existed only one team on the soil. Omeyer, who barely saved something until that moment in the second half, showed some very important saves and his colleagues scored 5 times in a row for 39:33. Stefansson succeeded the last goal of the game (39:34).
Simply brilliant the performance of all French field players: Dinart (in the defence), Fernandez (8 goals/9 shots) and Abalo (7/8) for Ciudad Real, Nikola (7/10, 6 assists) and Igor Anic (4/4) for Kiel.
