The coach Alfred Gislason was forced to improvise and that´s because not only Stefan Lövgren missed the game, but also Vid Kavticnik, the cause being the same, an injury. That´s why the pivot Igor Anic had to play enough time on the right wing, while the Right Back Kim Andersson moved on the center back position. He replaced practically Nikola, who still feels pain at his left knie, while Filip Jicha is not completely healthy after his flu.
In such circumstances, the first half was balanced, Ciudad Real was also without two important players, Didier Dinart and David Davis, both injured. Kiel had a two goals lead (9:11, 10:12), but couldn´t keep it for too long. After 30 minutes it was everything open, 18:18.
The German Champions were the better squad in the second half, extending their lead to 3 goals for the first time after 36 minutes (20:23) and maintaining it until the 47. minute (27:30). There were enough some technical mistakes to bring back the hosts into the game. Within 10 minutes to go, Chema Rodriquez scored for 31:30 on fastbreak, the guests took once more the lead due to Jicha (32:21/.53), equalised once more (33:33/.58), but the end belonged to Ciudad Real.
