The Zebras started better and were in lead with 5:2 (4.), but the hosts equlibrated the game with the time going and had even 2 goals in front (9:7, 13:11/22.). Nikola scored for 13:15, but after 30 minutes, the both teams were even, 15:15.
The second half was also balanced, both squads had the lead, but none of them could extend their lead more than at two goals. Within 12 minutes to go, the guests leaded with 27:25, 5 minutes later Hamburg was in front with 2 goals, 30:28. When they were only two minutes to go, HSV had 33:31, but Kiel managed to equalise and to obtain a 7 meter shot on the last attack of the match, Lundström being fouled by Schröder. Filip Jicha assumed the responsability from the line, scored and brought his team a big victory.
