06.01.09 - The Zebras qualified for the second group phase

Beating Drammen HK 40:28 in a game counting for group C, on the home soil tonight, the German Champions assured themselves the ticket for the next phase of the Champions League.

The Norwegians could keep the pace with the hosts just for 12 minutes (6:6). Kiel took the lead with 9:6 and never gave it up. Without Andreas Palicka, Börge Lund, Nikola, all injured, and with only one goalkeeper, Titi Omeyer, THW ended the first half in advantage of 5 goals, 18:13.
The second half went much better for the last season Champions League finalist. Having in Omeyer a guarding angel and in Zeitz a shoter and a good playmaker in the end, the boys coached by Alfred Gislason extended permanently their lead and won with a consistent margin.
Very interesting was the statment of Gislason for Eurosport: "We have only one goalkeeper since Palicka has been injured and we tried with Igor Anic in goal in workout yesterday ..."
