Nikola´s brother maintains France in the fight for Men’s U 20 European Championship´ semifinals in Romania. Luka scored twice in the last two minutes against Spain and saved his team from defeat.
The National Team of Spain has begun to know what a great player hides under the name Karabatic in the final of the European Championships 2006, when Nikola, at that time 21 years old, scored 11 goals and leaded his team to the European title. Yesterday, in Bucharest, Romania, another Karabatic made the Spanish team cry. His name is Luka, he is 20 years old and plays handball from less than an year. Certainly, he inherited the talent of his father and older brother, but also Niko´s ambition to be the best. He worked hard to be in the junior National Team of France and he has just became a decisive player!
Luka improves his performances from day to day at the Men’s U 20 European Championship. After a debut without goal against Slovenia, in France´s victory (29:28), Luka scored twice and defended great against Romania in another match who ended with a win of his team, 33:20. It followed the dispute against Poland, who brought other two goals "made in Luka Karabatic" and the third consecutive success for France in the preliminary group, 31:27.
But the best came today, in the afternoon, when les Bleus started in the main round group against Spain. In a very tight confrontation, the Spaniards were in lead with two goals, 30:28, with two minutes to go. It was the moment when Luka´ star started to shine. First, he scored for 30:29 with two minutes left and in the last second he equalised and sent Spain directly into the hell! Incredible! Luka brought a gold point to his squad, who needs a draw against Sweden tomorrow to reach the semifinal and to not depend on the result of the match Spain - Romania.
