Lövgren, Jicha and the other visitors needed 10 minutes to equalise (10:10) and other 10 minutes to take a six goal lead (13:7/21.). But the constancy is not really the best friend of the Kieler at the start of the season. Their weaknesses were punished from the opponent in the last three minutes of the first half, that´s why the advance in the break was minor: 16:14.
In the second half, Kiel solved the game having two players on a high level: Titi Omeyer (17/2 saves) and Stefan Lövgren (11/6 goals). Particularly the captain shined exactly when his team needed him, scoring three times in a moment when Balingen came to a single goal. THW managed to gain a 5 goal margin (23:18/43), preserved its lead and even extended it within 8 minutes to go (20:28 (52.). In the end, the German Champions won with 30:24.
